FAQs

Can we send two First Officers or two Captains on a Type Rating Course?

Yes, all combinations are possible. Flying duties are always performed from the pilot's designated seat; assisting duties are always performed from the non-normal seat.

Which SOPs do you train?

Ideally, the SOPs of the airline will be trained. Customers provide these in advance, and we standardise our trainers on them before starting the Type Rating. If an airline uses the same SOPs as the manufacturer, these are trained in agreement with the customer.

Do we have to send an even number of pilots for Type Ratings?

No. Type Ratings can involve either two or three crew members. When three trainees attend they are scheduled in rotation, hence one pilot is always in the role of observer. These observation duties have been proven to increase pilots’ knowledge of the aircraft.

Does Lufthansa Flight Training offer Line Training?

Not as such, since Lufthansa Flight Training does not hold an AOC. However, we can provide qualified trainers for Line Training under your airline's own AOC or we can also put customers in touch with partner airlines.

Where are the training locations?

Wet Lease Training is available in Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Vienna and Zurich.

Are Ground Course trainings restricted to be held at the training locations?

No. Roughly 85% of the Ground Course is "self study" material which trainees can use anywhere – at home, at their airline HQ, or at any Lufthansa Flight Training location. If any queries arise, trainees can contact one of our instructors by phone or email. Two days of theory are scheduled before commencing the FFS.

Does Lufthansa Flight Training provide documentation?

Normally, airlines provide the required documentation for Type Ratings themselves. Nervertheless Lufthansa Flight Training provides back-up materials such as airport charts, CBT, training records or cockpit posters.

Do trainees receive Type Rating certificates?

Yes. Every trainee completing a Lufthansa Flight Training course successfully receives a Certificate of Completion.

Does Lufthansa Flight Training offer Type Instructor Training too?

Yes, we offer TRI training for all simulator types. For maximum benefit, most customers combine this course with their airline's Type Ratings.
